I recently bought an unused vacuum column tape drive on the surplus market. I just got it up (had to wait several months to get a trivial interface adaptor from the manufacturer) and it works just fine, at 1600 bpi. 800 bpi is another matter. I find that two other systems have no trouble reading 800 bpi tapes I wrote on my drive, but that I have get trouble reading their 800 bpi tapes (no problem at 1600 bpi). I need an 800 bpi master skew tape to check out a couple of adjustments that I can make to my drive. If these are not too expensive (under $100) I would prefer to buy my own and make my own adjustments rather than pay local maintenance people inflated rates to read my hardware manuals (I figure they probably won't be familiar with my kind of drive) for uncertain results. Question: can anyone point me to a source of 800 bpi master skew tapes and/or tell me how much these things cost? Thanks, Dan Strick [decvax|mcnc]!idis!dan (412) 624-2135 (412) 521-6545
