I have seen several letter quality printers that are cheaper than that,
for example the Olivetti's, the brother sold alone as a brother,
the comrex, the transtar at $599, etc.  Unless you have some particular
reason tois one (an uncle at Sears, etc.), I see no great 
advantage.

installed a TP-1 at a client which we got from Figure-Logic (a mail
order firm located in Dallas) for $429.00.  They are now advertising
it at $439.00.  I have seen 47th street photo advertising the TP-1
at about $379.00 in the NEw York Times.  They are located in NEw York
and do handle some mail order.  THe TP-1 works great but uses the RS-232
interface in a weird manner (you may have to do some cabling) and
is somewhat noisier.  The Comrex was installed here at SMU and works
great and is quiet.  In the words of the secretary who was using it,
'at least it's not ugly.'
