A month ago someone asked for a way to support graphs in LaTeX. Someone mentioned using gnuplot to produce graphs in LaTeX form. I have been working on this now and then for over a year, and I guess it's time to let the world at it. I have a version of gnuplot 1.0.3 that is changed to include a LaTeX terminal driver. It is so expanded that I call it 'gnutex', although the user-interface is really the same as that for gnuplot. This will plot functions and data files in a variety of ways and produce a LaTeX picture environment to be included in your document. It will label the tics on the axes. You may add a title and axes labels. You may add labels at arbitrary locations on the graph, with arrows. It will make a key of the plots for you. You may define your own styles for the symbols and lines used to make the curves. I use it all the time, as do many other students here. I think it is easy to use. gnutex is available by anonymous ftp from duke.cs.duke.edu, in the file pub/gnutex.tar.Z (113K compressed). Comes with documentation. I don't guarantee portability or continuing maintenance, but we'll try, eh? WARNING: at 5pm Friday 7/8/88 our site is rearranging its local machines and networks, and duke.cs.duke.edu may be down for a few hours (hopefully not more), and come up as a different machine with the same names. I also hope the ftp directions will not change. If there is enough clamor I will get together a shar file and try to post to mod.sources, however one does these things.
