Does anyone know why the "supported Micro/11 interfaces" are the DEC Qbus cards which end in "P". What is the difference between P and non-P Qbus interfaces ? For example, the standard 4-line serial interface for the Qbus is the DLV-11J, but for the Micro/11 you supposedly need a DLV-11JP. Will the old cards work ? Thanks. Cheers, Dan Ts'o ...cmcl2!rna!dan

From: Bob Hoffman <Hoffman.Pitt@CSNet-Relay> All of the new Qbus products (like the DLVJ1-LP) have been redesigned to conform to the FCC EMI/RFI requirements that became effective on October 1. I suspect that the old interfaces will work with the Micro/PDP-11 but the machine will no longer be FCC compliant. The regulations state that a system integrator is responsible for ensuring the compliance of a whole system, regardless of whether or not it has been built exclusively from compliant parts. ---Bob Hoffman, U. of Pitt CS mcnc!idis!pitt!hoffman

I think that if you look carefully you will find that the interfaces with the -P suffix have been made to comply with the new FCC regulations. So the old ones will work too, but DEC can't sell them to you in a system, and you can't sell a system including old interfaces to somebody else.
