How do you go from WordPerfect to TeX? Try Publishing Companion from K-Talk Communications (3920 Olentangy River Road, Columbus, Ohio, 43214, 614/459-9711). This program works as a filter to automate translation of some standard features into TeX source code. One major pitfall: you need to know TeX's math commands to get math to work. Plus, PC has some of its own unique formatting commands. I find it easier to use LaTeX. Of course, if you have one or two gurus who master PC, your organization might benefit by having folks who don't have heavy math requirements just submit their documents to a "translation department." Publishing Companion also works with Word, WordStar, FPS:Write and Prof. Write and First Choice, IBM Writing Assistant, Multimate, Volkswriter and Deluxe, Displaywrite (DCA/RFT), and Officewriter. It costs about $200. It looked interesting when I bought it (and I'm a WordPerfect user), but since I already know LaTeX pretty well, and since I'm on my own, I'll stick to typing input files with raw LaTeX code and run it through the standard LaTeX postprocessor. No time to learn yet another system. David Buerger
