slj@mtung.ATT.COM (S. Luke Jones) (11/30/88)
I'm tired of trying to get blood from a stone/output from troff.
I've read "TeX and Metafont", "The Joy of TeX", "The TeXbook", and
"LaTeX User's Guide & Reference Manual" and I like what I've seen.
I've played with a version of plain TeX but it's very limited -- so
much that even in my "hello world"-type experiments I run into
problems (mostly a lack of fonts, but some other things).
Clearly I need to jump in head first if I'm going to get my feet wet.
So... Who out there can help me obtain a TeX (or, to judge from the
book, LaTeX would be better at least until I become reasonably adept
at TeX-stuff). Here is my wish-list:
=> free (non-negotiable, although a tape-copying fee is okay)
=> runs under UNIX Sys V (ditto)
=> binaries for SVR2-Vax or UNIX PC 3.51
or
source in C (negotiable to Pascal as a last resort)
...what is this WEB stuff anyhow?
=> dvi to (imagen or postscript) output
=> at least the basic fonts or, optionally, metafont
Please send email to the address below. If you want this stuff too,
please don't post - send me mail and I'll tell you what I hear.
Thanks in Advance,
Luke
