Things I should like to do with LaTeX that the article document style does not seem to be able to do easily: 1) Suppress page numbers on the first page of an article. LaTeX suppresses most of the page header on the first page when I use \markboth in the "myheadings" page style, but leaves the page number intact in the upper right corner of the page. 2) Place equation numbers flush right on the last line of a multi-line equation. This is a standard style for several astronomy journals, and I'd like to retain it in the book that I am currently editing/typesetting. 3) Use letters as well as numbers in equation, table, and figure numbers: e.g. Figure 4a, Table 6b, (7c), etc. Not being able to do this detracts from the logic of many papers that are going into the book. I'll summarize to the net if there is interest. Many thanks! -- Harold G.
