We use the ArborText DVIPS driver on both a PC and VMS VAXes and in general I am very happy with the program. However we recently got a LaserWriter II and I have just discovered a rather serious problem. Some of the resident fonts in the LaserWriter II seem to have different widths from those in the LaserWriter+. (e.g. New Century Schoolbook Bold.) The effect of this is that whenever DVIPS downloads a TeX character following some text in such a LaserWriter font, the horizontal position of the TeX character will be wrong. This may lead to unsightly gaps or (even worse) to characters overlapping! My theory is that Adobe used to just thicken the lines to do bold fonts but now they do them either as completely separate fonts or make some other "enhancements" including increasing the character spacing. I guess what we need is a new set of TFM files for LaserWriter II fonts (the ones which are different that is). Does anyone out there have these? We make very heavy use of the LaserWriter fonts, but still use the TeX fonts for mathematics.
