[net.periphs] Qume 5.25" disk drives

I recently purchased a Qume 142 5.25" DSDD mini-floppy drive, and I'm asking
for accounts of people's experiences with the unit. Specifically, when
I purchased the drive the ("I don't know anything, I just work here")
salesman said it's "not really compatible with anything, unless you're
building your own controller, then you're OK." I read over the
manual and it seemed like it should work fine, so I bought the unit despite
the claims of incompatibility. Does anyone know what he was talking about?
I am building my own controller (for a home brew system to run cpm)
so I have another question: does anyone know how much write precompensation
the drive requires (125 ns, 250 ns, other)? There's no mention of it in the
manual.
Lastly, what is the reliability of the Qume drives like?
Any help on these topics would be very much appreciated!
