Recently, I've gotten a few complaints about JetRoff output being garbled. It turns out, apparently, that long parallel printer cables are the problem area. I thought I'd share this. It seems that those 25 foot parallel cables in combination with some parallel interfaces have a noise problem on the eighth bit. Since JetRoff downloads fonts into the printer and the eighth bit is heavily used, the output is garbled. Straight ASCII files don't seem to trigger the noise problem, making it appear as if JetRoff is the culprit. In fact, I use a 25 foot cable here, but with a Parallel Line Extender 'booster' to overcome these difficulties. Oh yeah, JetRoff is a low cost DWB 2.0 postprocessor for the LaserJet (see signature below). It is unlikely that any followup will be of interest to both groups. ) -- Rick Richardson | JetRoff "di"-troff to LaserJet Postprocessor|uunet!pcrat!dry2 PC Research,Inc.| Mail: uunet!pcrat!jetroff; For anon uucp do:|for Dhrystone 2 uunet!pcrat!rick| uucp jetroff!~jetuucp/file_list ~nuucp/. |submission forms. jetroff Wk2200-0300,Sa,Su ACU {2400,PEP} 12013898963 "" \d\r\d ogin: jetuucp
