A potential JetRoff user just reported that the Panasonic KX-P4450 suffers from the same incomplete cloning that the Genicom (Centronics) printer does. This printer cannot handle the incremental downloading of fonts -- where each glyph is downloaded only upon first use, and is added to the font which has been downloaded so far. Incremental download is a huge performance win and JetRoff has used this capability since day one. I would add this printer to the list of LaserJet (+ and II) clones to avoid, if possible. In fact, based upon printing performance benchmarks and compatibility reports I can only recommend a genuine HP at this time. However, I have added a batch font download compile time option to the Registered Users version of JetRoff. The change is rather simple to make, but results in much larger output files (since each font which is used, even for just one character, gets downloaded in its entirety). Time permitting, I will try to make a Patch available for the Shareware version as well. Also, I urge people who are in the market for an HP compatible laser printer to check compatiblity using the output of JetRoff as one test. Even if you do not intend upon using troff to do your typesetting, the JetRoff output makes an excellent test suite. The "djet.1" manual page and the "djet.mm" product announcement call into play some 17 fonts, with 16 used on one of the pages, line drawing and bitmap graphics. I will make the HP PCL output of these documents available for anonymous UUCP, as indicated in my signature. -Rick -- Rick Richardson | JetRoff "di"-troff to LaserJet Postprocessor|uunet!pcrat!dry2 PC Research,Inc.| Mail: uunet!pcrat!jetroff; For anon uucp do:|for Dhrystone 2 uunet!pcrat!rick| uucp jetroff!~jetuucp/file_list ~nuucp/. |submission forms. jetroff Wk2200-0300,Sa,Su ACU {2400,PEP} 12013898963 "" \d\r\d ogin: jetuucp
