[comp.text] 300dpi vs. decent quality

fyl@ssc.UUCP (Phil Hughes) (02/10/89)

I few weeks ago (but long enough to be expired at this site) there
was a discussion of 'decent quality' vs. 300 dpi printing. I suggested
that sometimes you can produce copy on a 300 dpi printer and then reduce
it to produce something that looks good.

Well, I just received the February issue of UNIX review and on Page
96 is an ad that I wrote. It was done directly in PostScript but
printed at twice the size. We then had it reduced for an effective
resolution of 600 dpi. I actually didn't expect it to look as good
as it does. It appears that you are very close to the limits of
the printing process of the magazine at 600 dpi.
