I need a version of TeX/LaTeX that can handle very large, complex documents on an IBM PC-compatible system (MS-DOS). I am currently using a version called sbTeX, which I retrieved from simtel20. However, this version only supports the standard 640k DOS memory, and runs out of memory for my larger documents even when I boot the machine with no resident programs. What I really need is a version that either uses expanded memory (LIM 4.0), extended memory, virtual (disk) memory, or the Intel 80386 processor in "protected" mode. I have a 386 IBM PS/2 machine with 2MB memory, which I can configure as either expanded or extended memory. I also have a fairly fast and large hard disk with a pretty good caching program. I apologize if this topic has been discussed before in this group, as I am new to it. I would prefer responses via Email which I will summarize to the group in a couple of weeks, but posted responses are ok too. Thanks very much. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Scott Gilmore Research Assistant University of Delaware gilmore@vax1.acs.udel.edu Center for Composite Materials gilmore@oscar.ccm.udel.edu Dept. of Mechanical Engineering gilmore@minnie.me.udel.edu ------------------------------------------------------------------------------

You may want to try TurboTeX by Kinch Computer Company 501 Soiuth Meadow Street Ithaca, New York 14850 607-273-0222 $100 binary or $200 binary and source They implemented a TeX that for the PC's that supposedly implements vm. disclamer: I don't work for them, I don't know them, I have never used their product. I have only seen their ads in TUGboat and heard their little talk in Canada this summer. -- Michael DeCorte // (315)265-2439 // P.O.
