I have been attempting to get the CHEM preprocessor described in
Jon L. Bentley, Lynn W. Jelinski and Brian Kernighan, Comput. Chem.
vol 11, No. 4, pp 281-287.
CHEM-A PROGRAM FOR PHOTOTYSETTING CHEMICAL STRUCTURE DIAGRAMS.
to run on out MSDOS machine using MKS AWK and ELAN PIC.
While I have got the program to work and print some structure, I have
not been able to reproduce the results in the paper. For example,
I get error messages here and there and some garbage output is
produced.
Before I spend any more time working on this (I am not a computer
scientist) I would be interested to know if anyone has managed to
get the programs to work properly on the type of system that we have.
Perhaps working versions of the programs (for MSDOS) are available.
We do not have PIC on our mainframes.
On the face of it, the programs look good and the little output
that I have seen is good.
