well,
i am having problems with the amstrip that came with the
standard distribution. i run out of string character
space. is this a solvable problem?
any help will be greatly appreciated.
i have included the log in case it would shed some light on
the problem.

When you use AmS-TeX, there is no need for the Latex format (lplain); in fact, there is probably some conflict between the two. Use only the plain format.
