There is a book titled
Document Formatting and Typesetting on the UNIX System
by Narain Gehani.
In the chapter on pic, the author makes certain claims
about the capabilities of pic. In the version of pic we
have, from the DWB 2.0 release, there were discrepancies
between the pic we received and the pic described in the
abovementioned manuscript.
Three things in particular that are different:
o he describes a pic variable called
arrowhead, which controls the appearance of
arrowheads (the degree of filling).
Our DWB 2.0 version does not contain such
a variable.
o he describes a printf function
which enables you to dynamically generate text.
Our DWB 2.0 version does not contain such
a function.
o The syntax of if and for statements
described in the book differed radically from the
version we received. I fixed the version we
received to fit the syntax described in the book.
The question is: can anyone (does Narain Gehani read
this newsgroup??) shed light on what version of DWB
he is describing, where that version exists, when
it will be available, and why the versions we get
from A.T.T. licensing are so different from what
we read about in published literature?
