We have money for, and are getting ready to buy, a Floating Point
Systems FPS-500 series array processor. Plus, we will be acquiring
one packaged in an OEM'd VAX. These will be the 2nd and 3rd array
processors in Hawaii.
But the maintenance agreement prices we're being offered seem rather
high: $530/month basic + $15/month interface + $300/month "travel
premium". That would bring the yearly maintenance of our two
array processors to over $10,000 each. That's for 8-5 service with a
response time apparently measured in days.
I would be interested in hearing from anyone out there who has an FPS
array processor with comments to make about FPS maintenance, or who
has tried maintaining the things themself. Does anyone have just a
board swap agreement with them, and if so, how has that arrangement
worked out?
