Peter Schickele does tour, at least in the midwest. I have never seen one
of his shows but have I have talked to several people that have.
>From their reports I gather that they are unique to say the least.
He has a small group that tours with him and he usually uses a local
orchestra if one is available.
He seems to perform mostly at colleges and universities so you might
check out the schedules at the ones near you if you have the urge.

I believe that Peter Schickele spends half of each year composing and half touring. He seems to kick off each touring season with three or four concerts in New York between Christmas and New Year's. For the last few years, his NY concert dates have included December 26, 28, and 30, regardless of the day of the week. He is sometimes at Carnegie, sometimes at Avery Fisher, and sometimes at Town Hall. His entourage usually includes countertenor John Ferrante (billed as a "bargain counter tenor"), who is terrific. I do not know if the orchestra tours with him -- in NY it's called the New York Pickup Ensemble, and he claims that it's all the local musicians who are so desparate they can't find work anywhere else. I dunno -- they sound better than that to me. Last Spring he appeared at Town Hall with Ferrante and pianist David Oei (pronounced as the French "oui"; I'm sure of the spelling). I have since seen Oei in a few other concerts. Keep an eye on him; he's quite something.

If anyone has or gets a schedule of the P.D.Q.Bach tour this year, I'm sure all would appreciate it's entry onto the net. dave anderson houxm!dman
