Well, I just recently got fed up with not being able to compile any X11 software on our HP 9000 (series 350 running HPUX 6.2 and X11 Windows provided by HP) so I decided to get the X11R3 release from MIT and try compiling and installing it on our machine. Lo and behold, the compilation went down without a hitch. HOWEVER, when I tried running 'make install', I got the unpleasant (to say the very least, after 4 hours of compilation) surprise (yeah, I know, I should have looked more carefully) that X11R3 required (at least as defined in the hpux.macros file) a BSD-compatible 'install' program which in this case was called 'bsdinstall'. What I want to know is where to get this program (if it is available anywhere) or, failing this, suggestions on how to remedy this sorry state of affairs with a minimum amount of hard labor. Thanks in advance to any kind soul with useful suggestions, P.S.: No I don't want to wait for HPUX 7.0 which is supposed to include X11R3 because of time considerations and also because our software upgrade contract ran out a short while ago. ----- Pierre Mathieu CRESS, York University, Ontario, Canada mathieu@nexus.yorku.ca
