We are having a slight problem with eroff, eqn, and the execution of left and right vertical bars. We are trying to indicate the determinent of a matrix. A small simple example would be; .EQ C V ~ = ~ left | { x over y } right | .EN Now for the problem. When we run this under eroff and print on our Laserjet II, everything works fine, and we get nice solid vertical bars. BUT when we send the output to a postscript printer (TI 2115, LN03+ps) we get broken vertical lines. Obviously the postscript character chosen to build the bar is incorrect. We can go into the eqn output and very carefully change the | to another postscript character we get solid bars, but this is tiresome and as | is a common character we must make the changes with some care. Is this a known bug and is there an easy fix that won't change the results on the LJII. By the way there is a similar defect on the LJII in that the - (minus) in eqn is not the same length as the + (plus) and for equations to look right we we define - to \(em. Also is there a limit to the length of defines in eqn as released by Elan? We find that beyond a certain length (it seems to depend on the complexity and number) eqn fails. --R.J.Auletta rauletta@gmuvax2.gmu.edu
