cortesi@infmx.UUCP (David Cortesi) (09/20/89)
Recently I asked for input on writer's tools for Unix. Several people
wrote to ask for summaries of the results. I sent them, but mailers
bounced several, so here is an extremely terse summary of the state of
tools for writers on Unix:
AT&T Writer's Workbench.
There seem to be no other style checkers and no thesaurii. Marae Groupware
(313/995-1700) has a multi-user reviewing tool, not yet ported to Sun.
If you did not write to me directly, hit "n" now to avoid boredom!

The following three people might be interested to know that their
mail addresses failed with the following error messages:
> To: infmx!pyramid!decwrl!ucbvax!ucivax!david
> 554 ucbvax!ucivax!david... 550 Host unknown (Authoritative answer from name server)
(This is a wonderful error message; the first time a computer has claimed
to give me an "authoritative" answer!)
> To: infmx!pyramid!decwrl!att!jonlab!jon
> Mail to `jonlab!jon' from `decwrl!pyramid!infmx!ape!cortesi' failed on att-mt.
> The command `set -e; echo uucp!`path jonlab decwrl!pyramid!infmx!ape!cortesi`!jon' returned error status 5000.
> The error message was:
> Forwarding through this system (att) is no longer allowed.
(Your signature also showed princeton and bcr and I suppose I really
should try them too before giving up on you... but I don't have the time.)
> To: infmx!pyramid!decwrl!husc6!m2c!wpi!markc
> bad system name: husc6
> uux failed. code 68
> 554 husc6!m2c!wpi!markc... 550 Host unknown (Authoritative answer from name server)
