[comp.text] Newsletter publication with TeX?

krf@mars.ral.rpi.edu (Keith R. Fieldhouse) (09/21/89)

I am in the process of publishing a small newsletter for the lab
that I work for. I'd like to use TeX or LaTex (with which I am
only mildly familiar) to format it, essentially because that's what
I have available and anything that costs money isn't likely to
become available anytime in the near future.

I'd like the newsletter to be in 2 columns (with the name of the
newsletter across the top of the front page), have bold headlines, be
able to include figures etc. In general, I'd like it to like like a
nicely formatted newsletter.

To that end, I have a few requests:

Does any one have a sample newsletter that I might take a look at
to see how things might be accomplished? It doesn't have to follow
my proposed format (much of which, I'm sure, will be modified by
practicality).

Better yet, has any one developed a set of macros or perhaps a
LaTeX style for newsletter production?

Any help will be appreciated.

Sorry for posting to the net. I kept getting "User Unknown" messages
from your local mail daemon.

I just happen to be doing almost the same thing you do.

I have a set of Plain TeX macros that allow you to toggle between
single and double columns in mid page. Maybe that is what you want. I
can even send you the TeX file for the last issue of our newsletter as
a sample if you like. Simply reply to confirm.

P.S. I have hacked on the macros for quite a while, so they should
work OK. The only thing I have not tried is inserting floating
figures; these may break the macros, but I don't know.
