Is there software in the public domain for printing DVI files on a Hewlett Packard Laser Jet Series II printer? I do not have the capability of printing postscript files. PLease post replies or send mail to me directly. Thanks. Dan Naiman msc_wdqn@jhunix.hcf.jhu.edu

Hence, if anybody does know of something, please post to the net. Thanks much. Rob Wargaski --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Robert E. About a month ago, montjoy@ucece1.ece.uc.edu mentioned that he had a DVI -> LJ program available for ftp from his host (129.137.32.106). I found it there as /pub/tex/dvi2lj.tar.Z. I have only used it once or twice, but it seems to work fine. We have been unable to use TeX because of the lack of an output device (no postscript), but now hope that we have something that will serve well for a while -- I'm sure a postscript printer would be faster, using smaller files -- but, until then..... hope this helps, bob -- Bob Robison - Southwest Research Institute, Electromagnetics Div. robison@dfsun1.electro.swri.edu {sun!texsun, gatech!petro, uunet!cs.utexas.edu}!swrinde!dfsun1!robison

I do not have the Yes there are probably several, the one we use is called DVIJEP and is part of a family of DVI drivers by Nelson Beebe. It is available for anonymous ftp from science.utah.edu (a TOPS-20 (36-bit) host, so be careful when transferring binary files). We use version 2.06 from 1987 for the LaserJet Plus, but it works great with the LaserJet II, too. (At least I don't remember having had to make any changes to it.) For some reason this driver doesn't seem to be very well known, questions like yours pop up ever so often. -- Tor Lillqvist, VTT/ATK

Nelson Beebe (I forget his email address) has a collection of drivers for various printers, the laserjet plus among them. This driver should work with the LJ II, but I haven't tested it. I don't think the drivers are in the public domain, although I'm sure they are freely redistibutable, as long as you don't try to make money off it. They are available via anonymous ftp from science.utah.edu. -- Darryl Okahata darrylo%hpnmd@hpcea
