karl@wheaties.ai.mit.edu (Karl Berry) (11/21/89)
(For those of you who don't know, TeX 2.992 and Metafont 1.8 introduced major changes from the previous versions.) I have a TeX 2.992 and Metafont 1.8 that pass their respective torture tests, compiled with web2c. I have sent mail to the Unix site coordinator (Pierre Mackay) and the author of web2c (Tim Morgan) about it. If anyone else has done this, I would appreciate hearing from you, so we can compare notes. My changes are not yet ready for general release, and won't be until after Thanksgiving. It will be announced somehow, from someone, when it is done. (I am only posting this message to forestall thousands of ``who's doing it'' messages, and to get in touch with the people who are actually doing it, if any.) By the way, if you have a Pascal compiler and you're running SunOS 4.x, Knuth's own change files will probably serve for you. They are available from labrea.stanford.edu in the subdirectory `local'. karl@umb.edu ...!harvard!umb!karl (or karl@ai.mit.edu if that doesn't work)
