This may or may not help, because you may or may
not know it, but the original guitarist for Pink
Floyd was Sid Barrett.  Sid was one of the early
acid casualties of the mid-sixties.  I believe
he was hospitalized at one point, so the reference
to an asylum would make sense.  The contest is
a mystery to me.  The message you refer to
sounds like something I've heard about, though.
Incidentally, I don't think Sid's been heard
from since.
