[comp.text] dvi3ps.tar.Z

m1rcd00@fed.FRB.GOV (Bob Drzyzgula) (12/16/89)

On uunet, there is a file dvi3ps.tar.Z. I have no idea where that
file came from, but it was almost certainly ftp'd from somewhere.
The problem is that the file is corrupted... it throws uncompress
into an loop that generates output of (as far as I know) infinite
size, although the few files generated before the glitch indicate
to me that this is the thing I want and need. Uunet verifies that
the file is corrupted on their machine, but has no record of where
it came from, so here's the question: does anyone know where a good
copy can be obtained?

An alternate question that you all may wish to answer is: where
should I go to get a good, up to date dvi2ps that knows how to
use pk and/or gf fonts and can do font substitution rather than
metafonting what's needed (I have a version that only handles gf
fonts and another version that calls metafont). My appologies if
this is a real boring question, but none of the articles within
our comp.text expire window have specific ftp instructions.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

I saw dvi3ps couple of days ago on tut.cis.ohio-state.edu.
IP: 128.146.8.60. It might still be there!

See the following message:

    Subject: dvi2ps, version 3

Announcing yet another version of dvi2ps. (Oh no, not again....)

The good news: It's fundamental virtue is that it is an attempt to merge
the plethora of existing versions. It contains (most of) the features of
    the following versions:

	    Author Version
	  ___________________________________
	    Peter Damron 2.10gf
	    Larry Denenberg 2.30
	    Jing-bai Wang 1.12
	    Van Jacobson 1.18
	    Greg Lee 2.10.30
	    Tony Li 2.12
	    Piet van Oostrum	2.48
	  ___________________________________

A short list of the features:
     - correct positioning algorithm
     - (slightly) faster PostScript
     - customizable user setup file
     - flexible font directory organization
     - PK, GF, or PXL fonts
     - builtin PostScript fonts
     - asian fonts (jis, chfont)
     - PostScript scaling of substituted fonts
     - Virtual Memory management
     - flexible page specification
     - Trevor Darrell's psfig/TeX \special's
     - raw PostScript \special's

    Availability:
A beta test version is available by anonymous ftp from
    tut.cis.ohio-state.edu, under the name pub/dvi3ps.tar.Z.
(It's location here is temporary; it should eventually be moved
to pub/tex/dvi3ps.tar.Z.) The same version will become available
(soon, I hope) from june.cs.washington.edu, under the name
    tmp/dvi3ps.tar.Z.

Kindly send bug reports or enhancements to:

	    <kevin@math.lsa.umich.edu>

In Europe, you may get the file from praxis.cs.ruu.nl [131.211.80.6],
filename TEX/dvi3ps.tar.Z
