[comp.text] plotting environment in TeX?

apollo@ecf.utoronto.ca (Vince Pugliese) (01/15/90)

first thanks to those who responded to my request for the dropped
capitals macro.

now to another request:
does anyone know of a set of plotting macros for use in TeX along the
lines of grap from as in Documenter's Workbench?

thanks in advance

PiCTeX and gnutex both do plotting, though neither in as clear or
easy way as grap in my view. PiCTeX is good, but slow and
memory-hungry. Both bits of software are available on the Unix TeX
tape, and probably via your favourite `loadsa TeX goodies' FTP site.

If you have a DWB license, you can get a copy of `tpic', which takes
pic (ie grap output) and converts it to TeX macros; the use of a dvi
driver which understands the tpic \specials is assumed.

There was a paper at last years French TeX meeting about an
implementation of pic in TeX - maybe someone reading this heard it?
