Does anybody have any experience using 3600' reels of tape (i.e. 1-mil instead of the usual 1.5-mil thick) on a DEC TU-80 tape drive. The TU80 Subsystem User Guide specifies 38.1 micron (1.5 mil) tape, but also mentions that the drive meets ANSI X3.54-1976 and requires tape which meets ANSI X3.40-1981. The manual also nixes using "Back-coated" tape, whatever that is. Not having the ANSI standards in front of me (and being able to get about zilch useful information out of my field service branch), I'm confused. So... has anybody actually >>tried<< using 1-mil tape on the TU-80? I suspect it doesn't make much difference, but I'm running 4.2 on a 750. -- Don't blame me, I just work here.... allegra!vax135!timeinc\ philabs!cubsvax >!phri!roy (Roy Smith) rocky2!cubsvax/
