[comp.text] RTF and RFT

nbc@inf.rl.ac.uk (Neil B.M. Calton) (05/01/91)

I am involved with a project to solve some document interchange problems
within my laboratory. In the long run we are hoping to use SGML. However,
to solve some short term problems of moving documents between PCs and MACs
into the PROFS system on an IBM mainframe we have been pointed in the direction
of RTF and RFT.

RTF (or Rich Text Format) I have heard of and can be obtained as output of Word.
However, I am unfamiliar with RFT (Revisable Form Text - I am told). Can
anyone tell me anything about RFT and what are the differences (if any)
between it and RTF. e.g. Is there a specn. for RFT.

Pointers to books/articles will also be useful. Thanks in advance for any
help.
