I am looking for advice/information on multibus disk controllers. The only thing I have documentation on now is the Xylogics 450 that our sun file server uses. Anything you know about that or anything else would be appreciated. Responses by mail are preferable; I will summarize... Thank to all for the responses and for the admirable net discipline -- you all replied by mail, not news. Similiar controllers include the Interphase 2190 and the Ciprico Rimfire 50. If you plan to do much work in the Multibus area, you should get the "Multibus Buyers Guide", published twice yearly by Ironoak Company. ----- Hello...we here at Ciprico make just what you are looking for. In fact, we have a Sun-2/120 with both a Xylogics 450 and one of our Rimfire 50's in it. We'll even supply the driver... Call or write to: Stu Reile or Bruce Brunette Ciprico, Inc 2405 Annapolis Ln Plymouth, MN 55441 (612) 559-2034 ----- Before we settled on the Xylogics 450's, we tried a couple of different flavors of Interphase SMD disk controllers. They were flaky; we had no end of trouble with them. We have been really happy with the Xylogics 450. It is a real performer and has been quite reliable, at least the ones we use internally. We looked at a Multibus ST506 disk controller made by DSD (Data Systems Design). I forget the model number. It worked quite well. We liked it, but by the time that high capacity (>20 MByte) ST506 drives were price competitive, we had our own SCSI-based 5-1/4 disk subsystem, so we never shipped any of the DSD controllers. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
