We've had a CDC9771 (825 MB) disk on trial for a month, and haven't had any problems once a working driver was hacked together (it almost, but not quite, emulates a big rm80), so we're probably going to order some more. Please tell us if we should do otherwise... Running the Berkeley benchmarks from /usr/doc/diskperf showed it to be about 6% faster than an eagle (comparing roughly 200meg filesystems in the neighborhood of the high-numbered cylinders); if you have more comprehensive benchmarks, I'll be glad to run them. Sizewise, it's about an inch and a half deeper than an eagle (other dimensions about the same), and costs a little under $12K from several vendors we checked with; if your company has a contract with CDC, you may want to check out their price, it could be much less. You may have to buy a new controller for it (we used an SC7000 from Emulex, since the 9771 wouldn't work with our SC780). Mark Plotnick allegra!mp
