We have been asked by Thompson of France to distribute their 1 gigabyte laser disk in Southern California. Thompson makes all sorts of outrageous claims for the device and wants a fair chunk of change for it. We (Western Scientific) are interested in handling the product but since the investment we get to make is quite large I would like to know if anyone has used it and, if so, if it really works well, what SCSI host adapters seem to work, is a driver available for that host adapter, and what operating systems has it been used on? Other issues are how do you characterize a write once type of device to the operating system and what happens when you write to a block and it doesn't come back looking like what you thought you wrote? Is there anything wrong with it (from the too good to be true department)? Is it fast enough for you? What do you use it for? Ad infinitum.. If you haven't used one are you interested, and why? (Obvious responses are O.K..) Laser disk data dumps can be via (619)565-6699 or via net mail and usnail. I will post our findings to the net. I get more info from them in the next few days and we will sign a contract within 2 weeks (if we sign a contract). John Cornelius Western Scientific 4360 Viewridge, Ste.
