[net.music] The Blues, Chicago Style

Hello Blues Fans ...

This is to let you know about a band currently touring the South
and Southwest you might want to check out. The Mighty Flyers
are a Southern California based band playing Hard Workin' Chicago
Blues, Bop, and Roadhouse Swing.

The Flyers have previously toured the US and recently Europe, where Blues
is big these days. They recently played The North Sea Jazz Festival
in The Hague, Holland among the likes of B.B. King, Miles Davis,
Ella Fitzgerald, Fats Dominoe, Dave Grusin, Ray Charles, and others.
They also just played the Queen Mary Jazz Festival here in Long Beach
California.

Their music is definately the Blues, covering such artists as Big Joe Turner
and Jimmy Reed. Their material is predominantly their own, however. The
band consists of Rod Piazza on harmonica and vocals, Miss Honey Alexander on
the piano and vocals, Bill Stuve on the standup bass, Junior "Guitar" Watson,
and Ed Mann on the drums. Here in Riveside, they frequently have Sunday
aftenoon jams with the likes of Shakey Jake, Johnny Dyer, and the Late
Pee Wee Crayton joining them.

They have at least three albums to date, "Radioactive Mateial", out of
print (I think) on Right Hemisphere Records, "File Under Rock" on the
Takoma label, and the new European import "From The Start To The Finnish",
currently not available in this country (but soon!).

If you really like to boogie, and don't mind beein' where the Joint is Jumpin'
then check them out!. Here is a list of the upcoming tour dates I have.
