Recently a friend of mine purchased a SA465 double sided, 96 TPI 51/4 floppy drive from Priority 1 for $99. He swore it was the best drive he ever had, so I oredered one also. I received it six days after I 'phoned in the order (not bad for Hawaii). As soon as it arrived, I whipped up a floppy disk controller using a Western Digital 1770 FDC, which took all of three chips, on my Motorola 68000 educational computer board (ECB). There was about 50Hex bytes not used on the ECB monitor PROM(Version1.2), so I burned a small primary boot program in the PROM. From this I assert: 1. There are at least two very satisfied P1 customers. 2. An SA465 for $99 is an excellent buy. 3. The WD1770 makes developing a floppy disk controoler very easy. These are my own opinions and do not necessarily represent those, if any, of my employer. I am not in any way affiliated with Shugart, Western Digital, Motorola, or Priority 1.
