Three weeks ago I had occasion to do some p.a. work for a great group that goes by the name of Richard and Linda Thompson. The name comes from a husband/wife team who are members of the band. The members from the group are from England and are some of the nicest musicians I have had the pleasure to work with. The messages portrayed in most of the tunes on their current album are purhaps grim in that they deal with human extinction. Their new album entitled "Shoot Out the Lights" was given a well-deserved 4-1/2 star rating in the June 10 issue of "Rolling Stone". A group of friends I worked with for about a year is about to release their second album on Inner City Records. Their name is Rythmic Union. This album is slightly more commercial than their first album in an effort to gain a larger following. I was in the studio for the final mixdown of the new album and was quite impressed with both the playing and the engineering. Another group of friends should also be releasing their second album in the near future. Their name is Hugo Smooth. It will be released on Big Time Records. For all you jazz lovers both Rythmic Union and Hugo Smooth recieved good ratings on their first album. R.U. got their rating from "Downbeat" magazine and H.S. from a local Indianpolis music paper. For more info please send mail. If there is enough interest I will post detailed info on the net.
