I am interested in hearing about folks' experience with the DEC DMZ32. This is a new 24-line multiplexor -- it occupies only one hex slot in the unibus, and is connected via a T1 cable to a remote distribution panel. I remember that someone posted a 4.2 driver for it, and I believe (but I'm not sure) that it will be supported in ULTRIX v1.1. Has anyone had problems with it? Is it possible to saturate the T1 cable (say all 24 lines blasting at 19.2Kbaud)? I know the cost per line is higher than some other multiplexors, but since our new VAX will be located about 75 feet away from our other machines (and our terminal patch panel), we figure we'll save on cabling costs by running only the T1 cable to the old machine room instead of 48 RS232 cables (or some multiplexor box). Also, the idea of saving Unibus slots appeals to me. (I know about the Emulex mux's that get 64 ports from one Unibus slot, but we're trying to stick to DEC because of maintenance). We are also considering the DEC DHU11, which is another new mux that appears to be similar in capabilities and price to the Able DH/DM - 16 lines, one hex slot, $3100, speeds up to 38.4K.
