[net.periphs] anchor modems

I am about to buy a new modem. I've decided upon either the MARK XII or the
VOLKSMODEM 12 both of which are manufactured by ANCHOR. if you have had any
experience with either of these modems I would appreciate your feelings about
the modem(s). they are within dollars of each other in price and appear to be
identical. any advice would be welcome.

I have an Anchor Mark XII. It works most of the time so long as I don't
turn it off. If I do, it won't connect at 1200 baud for some random time,
usually 15-20 tries. It's not bad enough to send it away for who knows how
long to get it fixed, but it is very annoying. There is a review in July
Byte that reports other problems, some of which don't concern me.
However, the lack of "BREAK" at 1200 baud woudl probably have discouraged
me from buying one had I been aware of the problem before I bought the modem.

I bought the lowest price modem I could find and regret doing so.

I've never had this problem with my Anchor Mark XII.

My Mark XII does send break. It must be newer Mike Taylor's.

I bought the lowest princed 1200 baud modem I could find, and don't regret it!
