If your site uses Fujitsu Eagle disks with Emulex controllers on Vax hardware, I'm interested in hearing anything you have to say about maintaining these configurations. Specifically, If your Emulex/Eagle hardware is covered under a maintenance agreement (either with Digital or another vendor): 1. When the hardware malfunctions, how does Field Service diagnose the problem? What DEC diagnostics (if any) do they run? Are there any special tactics for using DEC diagnostics on non-DEC peripherals? 2. When spares are necessary for repair, does Field Service have an adequate supply nearby in the local office, or do you have to wait? How long? 3. Do you employ any Emulex diagnostic software? If so, please furnish ordering information (part numbers, etc.) if it's available. 4. Any other advice on how to work with Field Service to resolve third-party vendor disk problems effectively? If your Emulex/Eagle hardware is NOT covered under a maintenance agreement: 1. Who is responsible for resolving hardware problems? 2. What diagnostics you you use? 3. What do you do for spares? Everyone: What parts failed? Circuit boards (which ones)? HDAs? Cables? What model Emulex controller are you using? When your Emulex/Eagle gear breaks, what is the average downtime? In general, all accounts of your experiences (either favorable or unfavorable, lucid or vague) in this area of hardware maintenance are welcome. Please reply by E-mail to the address below. I will summarize to the net. Thank you in advance for your cooperation with this survey. ----- Rick Ace Computer Graphics Laboratory New York Institute of Technology Old Westbury, NY 11568 (516) 686-7644 UUCP: {decvax,allegra,ihnp4,seismo}!philabs!nyit!rick ARPA: philabs!nyit!rick@SEISMO.ARPA
