At the HTS"A", we currently use an Ampex Capricorn 330Mb disk, with an Emulex SC-21B controller, on an 11/34 running V7. Since the Ampex isn't under a service contract anymore, and knowing the "reliability" of the thing, I'm looking for something to replace it with as soon as it will finally break down (again). Now, the first thing that comes to mind is an Eagle, but I remember reading some articles stating that the throughput rate of an Eagle is too high for the SC-21B to keep up with. Since replacing the disk will already eat our entire year budget, replacing the controller is out of the question. So, for my questions: 1. Is it true that an SC-21B cannot keep up with an Eagle? 2. If this is true, is there some way to tell an Eagle to slow down? 3. If not, what is a reasonable disk, with a capacity bigger than, say 150 or 200Mb, that is useable with an SC-21B? 4. What does it cost? Please mail responses to me, I'll summarize. -- Jack Jansen, jack@mcvax.UUCP The shell is my oyster.
