crose (06/02/82)

 I have just bought the new Zappa album, "Ship to Late to Save a Drowning Witch";
one track on there is intitled `Valley Girl'.
I listened to the song and thought it was pretty
funny. The only thing is, i do not know what a Valley Girl is,
could anyone out there in netnews land help me out?

I believe 'Valley Girl' refers to a girl, probably of junior high school age,
in the San Fernando valley, in nw L.A. (Encino, the town described at the
beginning of the song, is in the S.F. valley). And yes, 'vals' really do
talk like that (gross out, gag me with a spoon!).

Who asked about Valley Girl?? All of a sudden a "Re: Valley Girl" item pops
up, but who knows what it refers to?? Barf out, gag me with a spoon, it's
groaty to the max, like, tooooootally! (BTW, whoever asked about this song,
did you know that Zappa's daughter, Moon Unit Zappa, plays the role of the
Valley Girl? This song is huge in Los Angeles (you can't spell "laid back"
without "L-A") on KROQ. Has anybody else heard and/or liked it? I've done
my part to get it played in NJ (you can't spell... oh, well).

A Valley Girl is one a female member of the genus Valley People,
who invade the best surf spots from their native homes in the
San Fernando Valley, and make the locals really annoyed.
This terminology also occurs in the Santa Cruz-San Jose areas.

And yes, they really do talk like that, in high school here in California!
