Being an "audiophile", I has followed the development of digitial technology in recording for quite sometime. It seems that digitial recording is the way to go, however, it may take at least 5 to 10 years before it can gain the popularity of analogue LP's. The major obstacles are (1) price - a digital disk player (e.g. Philips CD) will cause something in the order of $1000 (initially, and may drop drastically within a few years); (2) the availability and reliability of software (take Magnavox's Video Disk). Anyway, the general opinion of digital recording ranges from terrible to terrific. I have heard several digital recorded LP's, some of them are real bad (I can't say how bad, I just felt fatigue after a brief listening) and others are really good (e.g. Fresh Aire 4). I think it needs some time for the recording engineer to master the technique of digital recording (which is quite different from analogue recording technique) before it can gain wide acceptance. One can find relating articles in most audio magazines. To name a few (my favourites): Audio Hi-fi Answer (a U.K. prublication) Hifi News and Record Review (another U.K. publication) P.Yeung
