Name of site. vortex What the site is all about. Vortex is the home/office/lab development system for Vortex Technology in Los Angeles. The system is a Z80 micro, with 64K bytes and a 10 Megabyte hard disk, running the Unix-like MARC operating system. Vortex runs a homegrown version of UUCP and Netnews, written in "BDS" C. This code is not derived from any Unix UUCP or Netnews software. Vortex is a (small) company owned by Lauren Weinstein which is engaged in computer/telecommunications research, consulting, and similar activities. Name of contact person at site. Sending of mail to "D" sites is discouraged since delivery may be delayed for unpredictably long periods. Please keep in mind that this site runs on a 10 (yes, TEN!) megabyte disk, so please don't go too far overboard on the mail traffic! However, all reasonable usage is fine. Willingness (or lack thereof) to connect to new sites that want to join usenet. If you run uucp, tell if new sites can call you, if you will poll them, what your policy is. If on the arpanet, are you willing to forward news on to new sites by establishing an arpanet usenet connection? Disk space limitations currently make it impossible for us to forward netnews beyond this site. However (as discussed above) UUCP mail is fine, and any sites who might wish to poll "vortex" should get in touch with us at any of the above contact addresses. Vortex generally does not have the resources to call out for polling of other sites. We are not on the ARPANET. If you want to publish your uucp phone number, login, and password, include that info.
