We're about to bring Ultrix-32m up on a VAXstation and I'm wondering about the RA driver. Does it have the various RA disk types hardwired in or does it determine the disk size and geometry using the MSCP protocols? In other words, If I try to bring up Ultrix on my 319 Mbyte Emulex/Maxstor MSCP-look-alike disk, what will happen? For that matter, will DEC's new RD54 disk plug-in and play under Ultrix-32m version 1.2? If Ultrix was still an exact copy of 4.nBSD, of course, RA disks that don't have partition tables hardwired in the driver would be unusable (unless you have sources). However, Ultrix features on-disk partition tables, so there is no reason that I can see to hardwire knowledge of disk sizes into the driver. -- Steve Grandi, National Optical Astronomy Observatories, Tucson, AZ, 602-325-9228 {arizona,decvax,hao,ihnp4,seismo}!noao!grandi grandi%draco@Hamlet.Caltech.Edu
