Name of site. sydney What the site is all about. sydney is a gateway to the Australian Unix network. It is used for bulk data transfer including netnews. Data is actually collected at sdchema and transferred every week or so to a mag tape which is then sent airmail to the department of Computer Science at the University of Sydney in Australia where it is sent into the Australian network. It is a slow but cheap way of sending news, mail and files to Australian sites. There is a more direct link but due to the very high cost we don't plan to publicise it. Name of contact person at site. Bob Kummerfeld Electronic mail address of contact person. .....!sdchema!sydney!bob Bob Kummerfeld (Australia) .....!sdchema!bam Bret Marquis (US) U.S./Australian Mail address of contact person. Dr R.J.Kummerfeld Dept of Computer Science University of Sydney N.S.W. 2006 Australia Phone number of contact person. (61-2) 692 3423 {61 is the country code, 2 is the area code} Systems with whom news articles are exchanged. (what kind of link, who the neighbor(s) are). News is passed (still on tape because of the volume) to other sites that request it. Systems with whom mail is exchanged. (what kind of link, who the neighbor(s) are, what frequency of connection, whether or not you'll pass outside mail along). The Australian Unix network doesn't use uucp. Routing information is not carried in the address so the neighbours of a machine are not relevant. The network now covers nearly fifty machines, any user can be reached with an address of the form "username:hostname" so if, for example, you want to send mail to Robert Elz (kre) on "muvax" at Melbourne Uni his address would be: ...!sdchema!sydney!kre:muvax Willingness (or lack thereof) to connect to new sites that want to join usenet. If you run uucp, tell if new sites can call you, if you will poll them, what your policy is. If on the arpanet, are you willing to forward news on to new sites by establishing an arpanet usenet connection? Not applicable. If you want to publish your uucp phone number, login, and password, include that info. Not applicable. ---------------------------------
