I am looking to spend about $1000 for a PAIR of speakers. I would like information on what to look into. I am tending towards the B&W and other similar speakers. My ampilifier has 85 watts RMS into 8 ohms. (Kenwood 801 High speed), I have a DUAL 601 turntable with a sure V15 - 3 cartrige. ANY help and commentary would be appriciated. Thanks in adavnce... The point is, what TYPE of music (rock, classical, train sounds) do you listen to? Many speakers will do very well on rock, etc., but when it comes to classical, they just don't cut it. Just as some general comments, though, 3-D Acoustics has a nice set which uses two satellite speakers and a sub-woofer. This set does a real nice job with just about anything you care to give it. List price is about $500 I think. If you're into classical, check out Boston Acoustics' stuff. A friend is buying the A-200's (~$600-700/pair), and they are IMPRESSIVE. --Dave Curry decvax!pur-ee!davy ucbvax!pur-ee!davy ihnss!pur-ee!davy harpo!pur-ee!davy

Go for Boston Acoustics. I have a pair of A-100's and they do a great job of reproducing any type of signal I give them. Mostly Classical but some tunes like Fresh Aire 2,3,4, etc. When you go to look at speakers, take a copy of Fresh Aire 3 or 4 with you and play the toccato track on each pair with the same turntable, cartridge etc. This is a really dynamic track and will really show you what the boxes can do. That's how I choose BA's. Jim Burnett DEC
