Environment: Sun 3/XX with SunOS 3.2 I have been trying to run xmodem that was passed around on the sources list recently on our Suns. To test I have been using the Sun as the local system, connecting to our LAN using tip, logging into our local Multics system, and starting xmodem on Multics to send a file. To start xmodem on the Sun I have tried using ~C xmodem rt start_up.ec and suspending tip and doing xmodem rt start_up.ec << /dev/ttyb. While the ~C does not hang the port, it also does not tranfer the file. The suspend method definitely hangs the port and will not let go. I evenually disconnect (manually) because there is no response. When I login again to the Sun, I have a process <exiting> in the idle state hanging around and trying to use tip again results in the message "all ports busy". Two questions: What is the proper way to use xmodem with tip? Is there any way to get ttyb released without rebooting? No form of kill -N seems to toss it either from my ID or the root. --Randy rclee@hi-multics.arpa ...!umn-cs!hi-csc!rclee
