I am trying to control "DANGER: out of swap space" by setting the maximum process size. I have an 11/750 with 1 meg core, and have lowered MAXMEM to 500. (It was defined as (16*128) in params.h) Now, I have 6000 blocks on my swap device, and if I set MAXMEM to 500 (512 byte clicks), a process should be able to use only 500*512 bytes of core, and thus should always fit on the swap device, right ? (I'm testing with just myself, init, the swapper, and one or two system daemons running). I'm making it hang by deliberately starting infinite recursions. Needless to say, I still hang with the infamous "out of swap" message. My questions are: 1. Is there any way to control this kind of problem on Sys5.2, and why doesn't my approach work ? 2. What, if any, is the correct approach. Does MAXMEM have anything to do with the problem at all ? lou @ hoxna ihnp4!hoxna!lou rutgers!andromeda!hoxna!lou E-mail prefered.....
