I just saw a review of the Fostex 250. This is a portable cassette recorder that operates in a non-standard format: four tracks in the same direction at double speed (i. e.: 3.75 IPS). It has four mic preamps with EQ and pan-pots, and sel-sync on all four tracks. Questions: 1. Anyone out there in net-land own one? Is it really as good as the review implies? 2. Do you know anyone giving a good price on them? List is $1300; best quote I have had so far is $1075. It should be possible to do better, but most dealers have never heard of the thing. 3. Any recommendations for roughly equivalent things for less money? I hear Tascam makes one of these too but it's more expensive.
