[comp.unix.wizards] Bourne shell extensions

egisin@watmath.UUCP (04/13/87)

SysV2 and Sun's /bin/sh contain some nice Kornish extensions:
user-definable commands: NAME() { STAT-LIST }
built in commands: test, expr, pwd
new commands: hash, type

Does any know where this extended Bourne shell originated,
and why it wasn't include with 4.3 BSD?

I've also seen a version for 4.2 with job control and history.

Please reply to me, as I dont' read this group regularly.
