We are in the process of revising our Nutshell Handbook, Managing UUCP and Usenet. Most of the revisions have to do with adding info on HoneyDanBer UUCP; however, there are a number of other weaknesses we are trying to clear up as well. A number of people have responded to earlier an earlier posting in comp.unix.questions. Thanks. However, much was left to ask. 1. The AT&T 3B1 (UNIX PC) and other Convergent Technologies systems use a file called modemcap, which contains termcap-like descriptions of modems. Do any other systems use this file? (One person suggested that they'd heard of something similar called acucap, but gave no additional details.) 2. What is the "true" story about forwarding uucp requests. The documentation for some systems claims that forwarding is enabled by default, but can be restricted by entries in files called ORIGFILE and FWDFILE. Berkeley documentation says forwarding doesn't work, but there is a program called uusend to do it. Any light on this topic would be appreciated. 3. Does anyone have any particularly interesting chat scripts that they have made to work. I am particularly interested in chats that go through some kind of a LAN switch, or other complicated sequence. I would also like information on dialing out through a LAN. All contributions will be acknowleged, and the security of the systems in question protected. Please reply by mail (unless you think this topic is of general interest.) Thanks very much. -- LIVE: Tim O'Reilly (617) 527-4210 USPS: O'Reilly & Associates, Inc., 981 Chestnut Street, Newton, MA 02164 UUCP: ..!{harvard | decvax!linus!axiom}!adelie!ora!tim -- -- LIVE: Tim O'Reilly (617) 527-4210 USPS: O'Reilly & Associates, Inc., 981 Chestnut Street, Newton, MA 02164 UUCP: ..!{harvard | decvax!linus!axiom}!adelie!ora!tim
